Az idei nyaralásunkat nagyon sokáig nem tudtuk megtervezni, májusban még ott álltunk, hogy nem tudtuk, mikor, merre szeretnénk menni. Aztán kaptam meg megkeresést az Én a bálnákkal vagyok alapítójától (akivel egyébként évek óta kapcsolatban állok), hogy mi lenne, ha idén becsatlakoznék segíteni a magyar bálnales csoportjához. Kis kalkulálás, átgondolás után persze elfogadtam az ajánlatot, és Omarral elkezdtük kibővíteni teljesértékű nyaralássá. Magáról a programról később írok egy külön blogbejegyzést, mert érdemes rá.
We were not sure about our holiday this summer for a long time: where to go when to go, how to go... But I got a call from a friend I knew from her project (I am with the whales) to help her with her Hungarian whale-watching group. After some calculation and thinking, I said yes, so we decided with my husband that this is going to be our holiday this year (with some work from my side). I'll write a separate post about the whale-watching tours because it deserves it.
A kalkulációnk (akkor még) azt mutatta, hogy autóval sem lenne sokkal drágább utazni mint repülővel + vonattal, autóval pedig még mobilisabbak is lennénk, így amellett döntöttünk (nem állítjuk, hogy rossz döntés volt, de a benzinárakkal és az elszálló euróval azért ingünk gatyánk ráment - cserébe nem kellett idegeskednünk a jelenlegi repülős helyzet miatt).
At that time, our calculation showed that our expenses would equal either if we travel by car or plane and train. But that was obviously long before the Hungarian forint inflated. So we naively decided to go by car, so we can be more mobile and see more of Italy. It was not a BAD choice, but it cost a lot... But at least, we did not have to worry about the chaotic flying situation.
Úgyhogy július 2-án elindultunk.
Első megállónk Velence volt.
- Kb 7 óra autóval
- Parkolók vannak a mainlanden is (olcsóbb) és a szigeten is (a híd után rögtön - persze ez drága)
- A sziget könnyen elérhető busszal vagy vonattal (de akár hajóval is)
- Közlekedni gyalog vagy hajóval (taxi-hajók vagy gondolák) lehet
- Az utcán nem lehet enni, szemetelni, sirályokat etetni, nem fürödhetsz a csatornákban és nem mászkálhatsz fürdőruhában az utcán.
Kora délután érkeztünk meg, a külvárosi szállásunk nagyon szép, tiszta, modern volt, egy nagyon kedves, aranyos szállásadóval. Délután bebuszoztunk a velencei szigetekre, és jól bebarangoltuk a kis utcákat, csatornákat, hidakat.

We departed on the 2nd of July.
Our first stop was Venice.
- Approximately 7 hours by car
- Parking lots are on the mainland (cheaper) and on the island (more expensive)
- It is easy to reach the island by buses, trains, or even by ships
- Main 'transportation' on the island: by foot, by taxi-ships, or by gondolas
- It is forbidden to: eat and litter on the streets, feed the birds, swim in the canals, or be in swimsuits/bikinis.
So we arrived early afternoon at our accommodation in the suburbs. It was very clean and tidy, friendly with a kind and helpful landlady. We took the bus and went to the island to get to know Venice and its canals better.

Másnap Milánóba indultunk tovább Veronán keresztül. Veronában megnéztük az Arénát, ahol éppen az aktuális operafesztivál aznap esti nyitódarabjára pakolták be a díszletet (Aida), aztán megnéztük 'Júlia házát' és szobrát (aminek a mellét kell fogdosni, ha szerencsét akarunk a szerelemben). Mellesleg gyönyörű város.
* ami miatt visszamennék: egy operára az Arénában - Aida, Nabucco, Turandot - ezeket idén mind adják.
The next day we stopped at Verona. Visited the Arena, where they set the stage for the evening opera - Aida. There is a summer opera festival in the Arena, with big opera plays and big names. (Next time, I should check the visited city's event, not only the attractions). Then we visited the "Capulet House" - a.k.a Juliet's home, where everyone wants to touch Juliet's right boob, cause it brings luck in love.... It is a charming town indeed.

Estére Milánóban voltunk, de aznap már nem álltunk neki megnézni a város. Másnap nekiindultunk, Dóm, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - luxusbevásárlóközpont, La Scala, aztán még elgyalogoltunk a Sforzesco Várhoz. Milánó abszolút kultúrális hely, oda inkább érdemes múzeumokat látogatni menni, mint várost nézni - így legközelebb ha arra járunk, ezt biztosan figyelembe vesszük.
* ami miatt visszamennék: Az utolsó vacsora (hetekkel ezelőtt már elfogyott rá a jegy), a Dóm belülről, Képtár (Brera), egy operaelőadás a Las Scala-ban, DaVinci múzeum.
Our accommodation was in Milan, but we skipped the sightseeing for that day. The next day we visited the Dome, La Scala (from the outside), Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - the luxury shopping center, and the Sforzesco Castle. Milan would be worth more days for cultural tourism - visit galleries rather than just see the buildings from the outside.

Estére már Imperiában, a célvárosunkban lubickoltunk a strandon. Szinte minden strand szabadstrand, csak a szolgáltatásokért kell fizetni (elkerített, őrzött napozórész, napágyak, napernyők, stb.). A szállásunk egy tipikus kis hotelben volt, az erkélyünk a tengerre nézett és nagyon közel volt a kikötőhöz.
A bálnanézésről elöljáróban annyit, hogy az egy hetes tartózkodásunk alatt (8 nap, 7 éjszaka, de az elsőn megérkeztünk és az utolsón már indultunk vissza haza) 5 tervezett kihajózásunk volt, köztük egy szabadnappal. Időközben még egy hajózós napunk elmaradt az időjárás miatt, így azt a 2 teljes napot is kihasználtuk kalandozásra.
Az Imperiában töltött napjainkon főként strandoltunk, sétáltunk, ettünk, megnéztük a helyi bazilikát, meg ugye hajókáztunk/tam.

Imperia is a small coastal city with big ports and nice, sandy beaches. We arrived there late afternoon, and we were in the sea by the evening. All beaches are free, you only have to pay for extra services like showering, sun beds, or parasols. Our hotel room was small and cozy, with a balcony and view of the sea and the harbor.
Just a few words about the whale-watching. During our one-week stay, (8 days, 7 nights - the first and last one was for traveling), there was 5 planned departure, with one free day in between. In the meantime, one trip failed because of the big wind, so we had 2 days for bigger adventures.
Imperia is not a big city, but during our days there, we eat excellent food, went to the beach, visited the local Basilica and I sailed a lot. (4 times, on average 6 hours on the boat each time).

Volt két szabadnapom is, az egyik tervezett, a másik nem, úgyhogy ezeken átruccantunk máshová.
Első nap Nizza. Persze sétáltunk a Promenade des Anglais - on, strandoltunk a hatalmas szabadstrandon a leszálló repülőgépek alatt, felmásztunk a Kastélyhegyre, megnéztük a Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas-t.
*ami miatt visszamennék: Éze sajnos nem fért bele most, nem néztük meg a főteret, a Monastere de Cimiez-t, és a római kori romokat sem.
So on my first free day, we visited Nice. Visited the Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas, parked in a parking lot next to the Promenade des Anglais, beaching and SUP boarding with planes landing above us, climbed Castle Hill, and checked its waterfall, and ruins.
*would go back: Éze, the main square, Monastere de Cimiez, Roman ruins.
Második szabadnap átmentünk Monacoba. Előző nap is akartunk menni, de mindenféle úttorlaszok miatt feladtuk - itt érdemes megjegyezni hogy autóval nem lehet behajtani az Old Town részbe, és hogy rengeteg az alagút. Megnéztük a Hercegi Palotát, az Oceanográfiai Múzeumot, III. Rainier monacói herceg autógyűjteményét, a Japánkertet, strandoltunk a Lavrotto-strandon, és visszafelé ránéztünk azért a Kaszinóra is. Mindezt gyalog, úgyhogy 10 km-t biztosan talpaltunk aznap, hegyen-völgyön át.
On my second free day, we went to Monaco. It is not easy, with small streets, a lot of tunnels, and no access to Old Town by car. So parked outside the city center and walked A LOT. Walked to the Prince's Palace, the Oceanographic Museum, the Car Collection of Prince Rainer III, and the Japanese Garden, we were beaching at Lavrotto beach, and on our way back, we briefly checked the Casino. And this trip was about 10 km by foot.
Ezek után még volt két napom a hajón, hazafelé menet pedig megálltunk a Garda-tónál, Sirmione-ban. A szállásunk egy zseniális rusztikus házban volt, antik módon berendezve, kissé távolabb a várostól. Magáról a belvárosról pedig nem gondoltam volna, hogy ennyire aranyos, a tóba benyúló keskeny földnyelven. Hasonló Velencéhez, tele kis sikátorokkal, luxusboltokkal, fagyizókkal, a 'tetején' pedig jó kis strandokkal. És RENGETEG turistával. A nap az erőd megnézésével (ami a bejárat maga), strandolással, egy ebéddel, turista-áradaton való átverekedéssel, majd a másnapi 8 órás hazaútra történő felkészüléssel telt. Megnéztük a híres Jamaica strandot, ahol hatalmas, lapos, csúszós sziklákon keresztül lehet bemenni a vízbe.
After these adventures, I had two more 'workdays' on the ship (which is the topic of the next blogpost) before we started our trip back home. We visited one more place: Lake Garda, Sirmione. Our accommodation was in a very cozy, rustic house, a little further from the city center. The center on a peninsula, it is just like Venice, with old-style houses, fancy shops, with a lot of ice-cream kiosks. We walked a lot and saw the local attractions (ruins, which are visible from the beach, and the fortress, which is at the entrance of the peninsula). And there were a LOT of tourists. We visited the famous Jamaica beach, where the view is just splendid, you can see the ruins next to the water, and you can reach the lake through big, flat, slippery rocks. We spent the rest of the day with relaxing and preparing for our 8-hour-long car ride home.
Nagyon tetszett ez a trip, jó volt meglátogatni pár 20 évvel ezelőtt látott helyet (gimnázium, dél-franciaországi utazás), jó volt jókat enni, andalogni a zegzugos romantikus, mediterrán utcácskákon, jó volt bálnákat látni (erről majd még később), jó volt egy kicsit önfeledten élni.
All in all, this was one of my best holidays in years. It was nice to revisit some places after 20 years, and even with these prices, we could eat great meals, and ice-creams, we could get romantic in the cozy, narrow, Mediterranean streets, it was great to live the Dolce Vita.
Konklúzió: rengeteget talpaltunk, az olaszok nem beszélnek angolul, az autópályakapuk rengeteg pénzt elvisznek, a legolcsóbb Margareta pizza 8 euró, de az Ízek, imák, szerelmek című filmet bőven elég lett volna csak Olaszországban leforgatni, mert minden adottsága megvan az '...imák, szerelmek' részekhez is.
Side notes: we walked a lot, the Italians are really nice even though if they do not speak English, the motorway gates are eating a lot of money, the cheapest pizza is 8 euros, and they could make the whole 'Eat, pray, love' movie here, because Italy has enough material for the 'pray, love' part, too.
